Harris Community Action

For Students

Goals of the HCA Fellowship

  1. Connect policy students to local community-based organizations serving the South Side of Chicago.
  2. Contribute strategically to projects and the identified needs of these organizations.
  3. Complement the skills we learn at Harris to make an impact and connect with the local community outside of the university.

Fellowship Overview

Over a 10 week winter fellowship (Jan-Mar), 3-5 students are matched with a local organization to work on specific deliverables defined by the organization.

Throughout the fellowship, trainings are provided over the fall and winter quarters to equip students with general skills of working with community organizations. In previous years, these trainings included understanding power and bias, client management, project management and more!

We also seek to provide more specific support for each individual project with the support of the university faculties, university affiliated research centers and other experts to ensure quality deliverables during the fellowship.
